About this site

This site is designed as an e - scrapbook from a trip to Romania
with a group of other Launceston folk.

Here I like to share photographs and information I gathered on sites of interest, and the history and culture of the areas we volunteered
our trade as carpenter/labours.

Purpose of our trip to Romania

In Danas, near Sighisoara ..... helping David and Rodica McGuire together with Relu and his wife, Oana.
They both share Gods vision for families both the very poor and low income families to have their own home and of course to see Gods kingdom extended and people find the saving grace of God and his love.

Our work involved:

  • building a home for a family and painting the inside of a church hall - both in the village of Soard
  • a staircase and other small jobs on the third unit at the property of of the two families in Danas

In Sacele, on the outskirts of Brasov ......... helping an organisintion called FAST (Fundatia pentru Asistenta Sociala si Tineret, or the Foundation for Social Assistance and Youth) set up by a Romanian couple,
Daniel and Ema Hristea in 1998.
Together with the local authorities and members of the Rroma community, FAST aims to provide new homes for families living in critical poverty in deprived rural areas in the local villages of Tarlungeni, Zizin, Budila, and Sacele.

Our work involved:

  • adding a kitchen to the back of the un-completed community center - in the village of Tarlungeni
  • insulation in the top floor room of the center
  • helping Hvan and Hannah - Project coordinators from the UK, to construct the first playground equipment - an tall A-frame platform for the Tarlungeni Open Space Project - at the FAST center.
